180 jobs cut as Specsavers confirms Aston Labs closure

Specsavers-owned facility Aston labs is to be closed down with a loss of 180 jobs, it has been announced.

Loyalty bonuses are being offered to employees who stay on until the closure as well as comprehensive support and redundancy packages.

Group supply chain director Sean Lawe said: ‘Over the next few months Aston Labs' workload will be absorbed by a number of other Specsavers manufacturing sites in the UK and Europe ahead of its planned closure in early 2017.

Specsavers said it has already secured roles at other sites for some of its employees.

Lawe added: ‘There will be ongoing investments in these other sites to ensure that manufacturing in the UK continues to be an efficient and cost effective option for Specsavers, our partners and our customers.’
