3D printed lenses come to Europe

Luxexcel launches its 3D technology in Europe

3D optical lens printing pioneer Luxexcel has formally launched the technology in Europe and is in talks with a lab to use the technology.

The Belgian technology company made the announcement at last weekend’s Mido exhibition in Milan where it also showed off concepts for future lenses using the technology.

This included microchips and LEDs embedded within the lens monomer. Marketing communications manager, Eva Flipse, said the technology leant itself to producing lenses that were difficult, or impossible, to produce using current techniques.

In the US Luxexcel’s first customer is FSB Solutions which makes lenses for visually impaired service veterans. It licenses the technology from Luxexcel paying a royalty for each lens produced.
