The second significant burglary to take place on the Penn Road this year amounted to a loss of products worth £5,000.

Optician was told that Penn Eyecare, based on the Penn Road had its front door hinges smashed open with a building block at around 4am last Saturday morning.

Store manager Josh Banks said: ‘They took the majority of the Armani and the Ray Bans frames. The door had been damaged and glasses were all over the floor. It couldn’t have been more than a five-minute job. They just took what they could and left.’

In January, a similar robbery took place at Penn Road Butchers at 3am. Thieves stole donated money in the charity boxes.
