The heavily over-subscribed event was aimed at practitioners with supplementary prescribing (SP) and additional supply registration, and included lectures by speakers such as Dr Cindy Tromans, John Tickner and chairman Nick Rumney.

Optometrist Peter Frampton described how he had set up his Acute Unplanned Ophthalmic Triage and Treatment Service in Northumberland in 2005 and was now treating conditions, such as anterior uveitis and microbial keratitis, with a list of drugs including steroid preparations, all with local PCT support. Frampton felt confidence in diagnosis was the barrier to development.
