Optical business guru and author Dominic Watson is climbing Mouth Kilimanjaro in Tanzania to raise money for charity and to prove it is possible to do such things at any stage in life.

Watson, director at Myers La Roche, is attempting to cross an item off his own bucket list by participating in the 10-day challenge, which set off on October 19. He is also hoping to raise £2,000 for two charities: Vision Aid Overseas and Water Aid.

The trip comes as Watson is finalising his second book, The Rockstar Retirement Bucket List, A Bucket List for the Real World, that encourages people to follow their pursuits at any point in their lives. His previous book argued that business owners can simultaneously run a successful business while living an extraordinary life.

‘I want to personally experience another really huge bucket list adventure and really practise what I preach, showing people that absolutely anything is possible if you put your mind to it,’ sais Watson.

‘I have chosen Kilimanjaro because I have two young children and my wife wouldn’t allow me to attempt Everest,’ he said. ‘But at a whopping 5,895 metres high, Kilimanjaro is still a pretty big beast and a genuine challenge for me.’
