ABDO achieves carbon neutrality

Emissions were offset using projects that switched fuel use to renewable energy

Carbon neutrality has been achieved at the Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO) after analysing its activities in 2021 to calculate greenhouse gas emissions.

Jo Holmes, president of ABDO, said: ‘Carbon footprinting ABDO’s work is a significant achievement and I want to thank the staff who have worked on this on top of their existing workloads. It is exciting to know the offsets mean ABDO’s activities are now carbon neutral.’

ABDO assessed its water supply, waste generated, business travel, employees commuting, and emissions created working-from-home. Emissions were offset using wind and forestry projects that switched fuel use to renewable energy. An environmental sustainability policy was created by ABDO and it planned to develop a strategy to reduce emissions further.
