The ceremony, at the Apothecaries' Hall, London, began with a speech from the Master of the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers (SMC), Frank Norville, which was followed by an address by ABDO's president Eric Hall. As well as congratulating those who received certificates and diplomas, Mr Hall encouraged them to take part in ABDO activities, particularly in their regional areas. He stressed that the future of the professional body lay in their hands. Mr Hall said that without their comments via the Association's Council change would be slow. He presented the diplomates with Fellowship, Contact Lens or Low Vision Acuity Diplomas. The Association offered congratulations to the following students: Sergei Bobyk, full-time City & Islington College, London, who was awarded for the best mark, part one examination prize. Shafquet Mohamed, London, who was awarded for the best mark, ABDO final examination prize. Oliver Christian Bowen-Thomas who won the SMC prize for best mark in the final practical examination, John Clayton who won the FODO prize for best day-release student and Craig Richard Muress who won the Carl Zeiss prize for best correspondence course student.
