ABDO to review mail-order stance

Questions about the Association of British Dispensing Opticians' stance on mail-order contact lenses were raised at the body's agm at Harrogate last weekend (October 4).

In response, outgoing president Colin Lee said proposals which had emerged from the General Optical Council contact lens committee on new prescription form recommendations were being looked at by ABDO's own contact lens committee. One member said the proposals were 'not a happy situation', and secretary general Malcolm Hunt said there were concerns over the recommendations. Eric Hall, a Cleveland-based dispensing optician who manages his own independent practices, was installed as president at the meeting. Mr Lee, who has held the post for two years said ABDO had played a vital part in professional matters during the last 12 months, and was in a healthy financial state. especially after the body had paid off its mortgage on its London headquarters. Alan Parkhurst was installed as the new vice-president.
