Academy Eyewear is offering practices a Sunwise sports frame package glazed with Shamir lenses which it says makes sports eyewear affordable for all customers and opens up a new business opportunity for practices.
The £200 Kit consists of a desk-top stand containing eight sports and leisure frames which can be glazed or carry a prescription insert. Other supporting materials include a window poster for prescription sports eyewear and patient leaflets.
Lee Williams director of Academy Eyewear said: 'The Sunwise RX package had been developed to provide an inexpensive sports vision range of pure sports and sport/leisure glasses complete with direct lens technology from Shamir for UK practitioners.'
He said pricing for many of the higher profile brands was too high for the majority of sports customers needing a spectacle correction. Academy Eyewear recently visited a cycling exhibition and Williams said it was inundated with requests for lower priced sports vision. 'We feel that there is a gap for a well-profiled British brand to help the profession develop a business in sports vision. Our market research tells us that the growth of this market has been inhibited by price.' he said the same message was coming back from opticians and Academy wanted to make sports a regular dispense rather than an occasional one.
Williams said the package offered products with a reasonable profile at an inexpensive price. He said there was an opportunity for the profession to educate customers about what the possibilities were and the additional materials would help with that.
Frames in the package include: Canary Wharf, Thunder, Supreme, Shipwreck, Fistral, Bude and Marine that can be directly glazed. The Montreal frame can be directly glazed or use an insert. Styles cover all of the mass participations sports from cycling to sailing.
Customers can order direct through Shamir and the sunglasses are stocked at its Portuguese factory. Both single vision and progressives are available using Attitude Freeform technology.
