Charity Action for Blind People has rolled out a new lifestyle campaign using optical practices, pharmacies and GPs to offer tips to reassure those concerned about sight loss.
The move follows its research in April revealing nearly 90 per cent of visually impaired people said they would have benefited from information from an Eye Clinic Liaison Officer (ECLO) before being fully diagnosed as losing their sight.
The campaign provides tips on smartphones with built in technology, talking gadgets for the kitchen, community travel support, audio-described cinema, employment advice, and talking cash machines at banks.
Colin Whitbourn, Action’s director of partnerships, said: ‘The 90 per cent statistic doesn’t surprise me, but what a terrible predicament for anyone facing this appalling situation.
