AIO to launch new insurance policy

Independents
PI element covers actions of all practice staff and is available to non-members

A buzz was created at last weekend’s NEG conference following a presentation from the Association of Independent Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians (AIO), which launched a new optical practice insurance policy.

What excited delegates was the vicarious cover, meaning the PI element covered the actions of all practice staff and the fact the policy was available to non-AIO members.

Mike Ockenden, head of secretariat, told delegates there were concerns over the nature of existing professional indemnity policies. Launching a simple, all- inclusive practice based policy would help new entrants to the sector and boost the benefits of AIO membership. The policy covers all risks for a practice including PI, property, business interruption, employers, cyber risk public and product liability and court attendance costs. Other insurances can be included, or excluded, and all policy holders will have access to a specialist legal hotline.
