In the latest twist to the ReNu MoistureLoc saga, a medical device alert has been issued by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).
It details the risk of Fusarium eye infections from the use of the Bausch & Lomb contact lens solution.
In a statement from the MHRA, its principal toxicologist in Biosciences & Implants, Dr Sandra Costigan, said: ‘Based on the limited information available to date, Fusarium eye infection appears to remain uncommon in the UK.
‘Despite this, MHRA has decided to issue an alert to raise awareness because it is so important that the infection is recognised early and appropriate treatment initiated as soon as possible to prevent permanent damage to the eye.’
