Alick Taylor

Alick Taylor died on December 15, 2020

Optician is saddened to report that lifelong optical industry professional Alick Taylor died on December 15, 2020.

Taylor spent his entire working life in the profession and was an active participant in the British Standards Institution’s (BSI) spectacles committee.

He was born in London in 1932 and attended the Northampton Polytechnic (now City, University of London) after leaving school to study ophthalmic lenses and frames.

Taylor worked for Raphael’s making tortoiseshell frames and surfacing lenses, before he served in the RAF in Egypt and Cyprus.

In 1955, Taylor joined Harrogate Optical Co before leaving to work for Norville Optical Co for two years and then re-joined Harrogate in 1958 as prescription manager, becoming a company director in 1965.
