US researchers have validated a new online risk assessment model for age-related macular degeneration. Taking into account independent variables including age, smoking history and family history of AMD, researchers were able to predict the risk of developing AMD accurately when compared with a 9.3 year follow-up of patients.
The online tool, discussed in this month's Archives of Ophthalmology, has similarities to the UK's SightRisk calculator.
