Efforts by the profession to amend the Health Bill will concentrate on government assurances on the GOS system, and the possibility to include DOs as of right on LOCs.
The Health Bill is now in its standing committee phase, after being debated in the House of Commons (News, December 2).
Backing for the amendments related to GOS emerged in a statement by health minister Rosie Winterton.
She said there was no intention to use new powers to restrict choice or end the demand-led nature of GOS sight tests.
The profession is also looking for clarification on future services, given that practitioners will provide additional and enhanced services.
