Douglas Anderson, inventor of the Optos device, has been named as one of four new additions to the Scottish Engineering Hall of Fame.
A product designer, he was spurred on to develop the Optomap retinal scanner by the inadequacies of diagnostic methods that failed to detect a detached retina in his five-year-old son.
The Dunfermline-based company Optos is expanding in Europe and new markets and as of March 2012, over 33 million Optomap exams had been undertaken.
