Degree courses in ophthalmic dispensing and optical management have been suspended at Anglia Ruskin University as a result of the government's capping of student admissions.

With the applications process for places on its 2010 academic courses, including the two bachelor of science degree courses, already under way, the University was given its admissions figures and told it would be fined heavily if it exceeded them.

As a result of these circumstances, the University was obliged to undertake a major review of its course portfolio and to discontinue some of its least popular courses. Ophthalmic dispensing and optical management were two of over 100 courses that were either discontinued or suspended.
