Anterior segment disease

Everyday and not so everyday anterior eye problems are presented in an entertaining and informative way at the forthcoming OELroadshows

Most optometrists have long grown bored with the hoary old red-eye lecture delivered almost straight from the textbook. We have certainly moved on from the simplistic differential diagnosis of conjunctivitis from acute glaucoma. We now stand in a very privileged position with access to training, diagnostic equipment and we are on the very threshold of access to therapeutics.
This presentation moves on from the conventional didactic approach. Using an interactive two-presenter style, the audience is able to select at random everyday and not so everyday anterior eye problems that arise in practice.
All the cases presented are genuine, arising in either Lyndon JonesÕ or Nick RumneyÕs practices over the years. By carefully including the typical red herrings of contact lens wear and the issues of non-compliance, the presentation deals with the typical frustrations you find in practice.
Once the diagnosis is confirmed the presentation goes deeply into the management, at all levels, of the condition. From simple palliative suggestions to emergency referral, all aspects of the everyday red eye are covered.
The presentation suggests what you can do now and when you need to take notice of the implications of misdiagnosis. By discussing cases realistically as they may present in practice the individual foibles of patients are addressed as well as the vital take-home messages and pearls that mean the difference between identifying a microbial keratitis from a gram-positive sterile ulcer.
On past experience of this course this two-presenter interactive presentation has been the highlight of the day and not just because of the chocolate prizes! You are guaranteed to take something home and use the information the very next day in practice.
