ASA delivers against LensWay

Contact lenses
Complainant challenged whether prices quoted in the ad were misleading as additional compulsory charges for handling and insurance were applied during the ordering process

Advertising Standards Authority logoAn advertising complaint against online contact lens and spectacle retailer LensWay has been upheld by the Advertising Standards Authority.

One complainant challenged whether prices quoted in an ad stating ‘Free delivery and easy free returns’ and ‘PureVision Multifocal 6 lenses per box £54.89 Sale price per box. Was £59.99’ were misleading because additional compulsory charges for handling and insurance were applied during the ordering process.

LensWay responded that the cost of the handling and insurance charges was not the same for all orders as it differed depending on the size of the product. It proposed including ‘Handling and Insurance charges may apply’ on the Cart Details page during the order process or including a specific term within the terms and conditions.
