Specsavers has been ordered to remove an online promotion for a free contact lens trial from its website after the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) upheld a complaint that the advertisement was misleading.
The website promotion with the headline 'Contact Lenses Go Free' did specify that a current prescription would be necessary and that the promotion excluded coloured contact lenses.
Another stipulation stated: 'If you've had a contact lens check recently you may still need an eye test.'
The ASA adjudication stemmed from a complaint from a customer that they were excluded from the free contact lens trial as hard lenses were not available as a part of the Specsavers promotion.
