The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has upheld a complaint made against optical software company Optisoft. The complaint, made by software group Specialist Data Sales, concerned an advertisement in the optical press which claimed that the York-based group was 'market leader'.
Optisoft believed the claim was justified because it had 'more users and more installed sites than any other supplier'. However the ASA considered that the evidence provided by the company merely showed the number of installed sites and the size of Optisoft's data base. 'Because it understood that the complainants had a larger user-base and more installed sites, the authority considered that the advertisers had not substantiated the claim,' the ASA stated.
