An ask the experts Facebook group set up by Specsavers has handled hundreds of patient questions about eye and ear health during lockdown.

The multiple’s group launched on April 2 and was designed in response to patient demand for information during the pandemic.

Over 1,000 people have joined and had questions answered by a team of 30 optometrists and audiologists who are available from 9am to 10pm, seven days a week.

A message is sent to the person’s nearest Specsavers practice if further investigations are required so that an appointment can be arranged.

Caerphilly-based optometrist Geraint Jones, who has been providing advice on Facebook, said: ‘The Specsavers Facebook group is brilliant at helping ease people’s eye care concerns. It’s for anyone but is especially good for our vulnerable customers, such as people who are shielding and may need anything from simple advice to sight-saving referrals.’
