Assistant acquitted

Optical assistant Zaheera Jussab was acquitted of 20 charges of false accounting and deception at Leicester Crown Court last month.

The charges were brought against Ms Jussab, who appeared with dispensing opticians Shabir Ibrahim and Zahir Ibrahim, after a year-long investigation by Leicestershire Health Authority (News, June 18). The prosecution offered no evidence against Ms Jussab, who pleaded not guilty at the preliminary hearing on August 20. The cases of Mr Ibrahim and his brother have been adjourned for sentencing after both men pleaded guilty to 20 similar charges. A provisional date for their next appearance has been set for October 1.
