Associations champion gender diversity

ABDO and the AOP supports gender equality, with female representation at 61.5%

In celebration of International Women’s Day, the progressive proportion of women in the optical industry was highlighted, alongside plans to support workplace diversity.

The Association of Optometrists (AOP) said that it will be focusing on championing diversity overall in 2022, including by tackling racism in the workplace – especially for women of colour – and highlighting inequality gaps, as well as supporting members with resources and its employment law team.

Dispensing optician Jo Holmes, president at the Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO), commented: ‘With a high proportion of women working in the optical industry, ABDO is always keen to represent the dynamics of the membership on all levels. This is reflected on the present composition of the board and committees throughout the organisation where women play key roles.’
