Aston IP course meets new GOC standards

Aston University’s post-graduate independent prescribing qualification has been recognised as the first to be delivered under the by the General Optical Council’s new education and training requirements.  

Samara Morgan, head of education development at the GOC, said: ‘We have seen great progress from providers adapting to the new requirements across optometry, dispensing optics, and independent prescribing.’  

Providers of existing GOC-approved qualifications are required to outline how their adapted qualifications will meet the requirements with the GOC reviewing these changes.  

Dr Preeti Bhogal-Bhamra, director of optometry post-graduate programmes at Aston University, said the new course structure was ‘a great step forward for the profession.’
