Awards for Holland practice

Cheltenham-based optometrists Keith and Clare Holland have been celebrating achieving two awards. In the same week, Keith Holland became the first British fellow of the US College of Optometrists in Vision Development and the practice also received a recognition plaque from Investors In People, an award given by the Training and Education Council.

'The fellowship involved an open-book examination of 20,000 words, a three-hour MCQ examination and a one-hour oral examination - all on the subjects of binocular vision, paediatrics and vision therapy,' says Mr Holland, from the specialist children's practice he runs with his wife. 'Fellowship is recognised in the US as an indication of expertise in these fields, which I have been interested in for many years. Britain does not have any qualification that is clinically based in these areas, and I had to look abroad for certification.' The day after completing the fellowship, Mr Holland presented a lecture to the Third International Congress of Behavioural Optometry in Washington on the multi-disciplinary care of children with learning difficulties. The Investors in People award was presented to Keith and Clare Holland at a ceremony at the end of June. 'These two awards mark our determination to work at the highest possible standard,' says Mr Holland.
