Back to school sight test call

The College has urged parents to look out for potential problems with vision

A survey carried out by the College of Optometrists found 23% of parents had never taken their children for a sight test.

The survey of 4,000 adults in the UK took place in September 2020 and in a second survey in April 2021 the number was 14%.

As children return to school, the College urged parents to look out for key signs to detect potential problems with vision such as one eye turning in or out, rubbing their eyes and watery eyes.

Daniel Hardiman-McCartney, clinical adviser for the College, said: ‘Whether or not you suspect an issue with your child’s vision, it’s always important to get the health of their eyes checked and follow the advice of your optometrist.’
