Barry Duncan named ABDO deputy chief executive

ABDO has named Barry Duncan as its new deputy chief executive

The Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO) has named Barry Duncan as its new deputy chief executive.

Qualifying as a dispensing optician in 1999 and serving as president of the organisation from 2008-2010, Duncan will start his new role on January 1.

Since joining the ABDO executive team in 2012, Duncan had overseen a reform of the association’s organisation, the appointment of the new National Clinical Committee and spearheaded the drive for MECs accreditation for CLOs, a statement said.

ABDO CEO Tony Garrett said: ‘I am delighted that Barry has agreed to take on this enhanced role at what is an incredibly busy time for the association as we face considerable change in the months and years ahead.’

As well as continuing to oversee matters on policy and development, Duncan would assume a wider responsibility across the organisation to deliver objectives.

‘I am delighted to have this opportunity to take on extra responsibility within ABDO. This is an exciting time for the profession and our members and I look forward to contributing towards our continued success,’ said Duncan.
