Michael Bateman, who was awarded a CBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours list earlier this year for services to the optical profession and to charity, received the award from Her Majesty on November 11.

The Investiture, in a break with tradition, was held for the first time at Windsor Castle.

On being awarded the prestigious honour, Bateman said: 'I have been involved on numerous committees and councils of the profession for over 40 years. As we have grappled with the challenges facing the profession, it has been my privilege and pleasure to work with many dedicated and inspirational people. It is thanks to them that I have enjoyed those years, and anything I may have helped to achieve has been the result of a team effort. I am still finding it hard to believe that I have been awarded such a high honour for doing something I have enjoyed so much.'
