Bausch & Lomb has confirmed that its ReNu with MoistureLoc contact lens solution has been linked with fungal keratitis cases in Europe.
A spokeswoman for the beleaguered eye care giant told Optician Online that a ‘handful’ of eye infections in Europe had been linked to the MoistureLoc product and that the cases were being fully evaluated.
Bausch & Lomb has not indicated where or how many European cases have been identified, but said that the instances would be ‘fully evaluated’.
Patients living in warmer climates are more susceptible to the infection. Moorfields Eye Hospital told Optician Online that in the past two years it had seen only two cases of Fusarium keratitis, one of which was a private patient who had travelled to London from the United Arab Emirates.
