Bausch+Lomb has announced plans to invest €41m in manufacturing capacity at its Waterford facility in Ireland, creating up to 50 jobs within the next 18 months.
The investment received the backing of the Irish Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, along with IDA Ireland, the agency responsible for industrial development in Ireland.
It will be used to equip the plant with next-generation contact lens manufacturing technology, high speed packaging equipment, efficient energy generation and on employee training.
In June this year, the site’s future was put at risk after the B+L’s parent company announced plans to make significant cuts to costs. An improved redundancy package for 200 workers and a 15 per cent reduction in wages and cuts in benefits for existing staff, was eventually brokered by unions.
