The BCLA has slammed an article that appeared in last weekend's Sunday Telegraph (March 25) for showing a complete lack of understanding about the importance of aftercare for contact lens patients.
The feature 'I spy a bargain' which appeared in the Money and Jobs section of the national newspaper claimed that millions of UK contact lens wearers are throwing away hundreds of pounds a year by shopping at their high street optician when they could buy their lenses far more cheaply online.
The article unveiled 'huge' price differences between high street practices and online contact lens retailers and explained to readers how they can obtain cheap eye tests in order to acquire their prescription. It also accused some practices of making customers wait up to six months for their prescription, but failed to point out the importance of on-going health checks.
