An online contact lens executive has sought clarification from the British Contact Lens Association (BCLA) after it said buying from the internet made compliance less likely.
Dean Butler, who founded Lenscrafters and is on the board of directors at Glassesdirect, wrote to the BCLA following comments by president Dr Catharine Chisholm during this month's Fusarium media storm (News 08.02.13).
Dr Chisholm said at the time that contact lens wearers who bought lenses from sources other than their eye care practitioner had been shown to be less likely to follow good eye care health practices, such as attending regular aftercare check-ups.
Butler responded with a letter requesting valid third-party research and asking what the good eye care health practices were.
