BCLA event to cover anterior

management

Management options for the anterior eye will be the topic for the second of the British Contact Lens Association's new-format CET events for 2004. The half-day course, which starts at 2pm, will be held at the Royal Society of Medicine in central London on March 31.
'This course is a must for those optometrists and contact lens practitioners with an interest in anterior eye management beyond contact lenses,' said a BCLA spokeswoman. 'Early booking is recommended after the sell-out success of the first course to the new format, held in London last week.'
Lectures will examine the various options for anterior eye management in the 21st century, including therapeutics, contact lenses, conventional surgery and refractive surgery.
Professor Michael Doughty will open the programme with a look at UK optometry and the treatment of eye and he will be followed by three ophthalmologists. Sunil Shah will look at preoperative assessment of the potential refractive surgery patient, Dr Sarah Janikoun will answer questions about managing the red eye, especially regarding contact lens patients, and Professor Harminder Dua will use case studies to illustrate the management options for various corneal complications.
The BCLA's regular evening meeting Ð open to all members and guests Ð follows on from this half-day course. The meeting will feature a four-way debate with Professor Mo Jalie, Richard Pearson, Brian Tompkins and William Ayliffe.

Delegates attending the half-day course are welcome to stay on into the evening (at the same venue) at no extra cost.
The full programme has 6.5 College credits, of which 1.5 are contact lens related, and 3 contact lens and 2 general dispensing ABDO credits.
