The British Contact Lens Association has launched an initiative to make it more affordable for those starting out in their career to attend its Clinical Conference which takes place in Manchester from May 28-31 2009.

All delegates at the four-event will be able to bring along junior colleagues who have been qualified for five years or less to the Sunday sessions of the conference for half the normal day delegate rate, from just £72.50 per day. Existing BCLA members and new members who join before the event already benefit from saving £100 on a full delegate package.

Among the highlights for 2009 will be special sessions such as ‘Ten years of silicone hydrogels’ and ‘Contact lenses and the ageing eye’.

International speakers include Professors Debbie Sweeney, Nathan Efron and Brien Holden from Australia, and Drs Ray Applegate, Ian Cox, Lisa Keay and Jason Nichols from the US, as well as experts from the UK such as keynote speaker Professor Harminder Dua.

Running alongside the lectures are six clinical presentations, a workshop on team leading, poster and photographic competitions, and a course in contact lens fitting for ophthalmologists.

There is also social programme in place including a Gala Dinner.
