The British Contact Lens Association has issued a new factsheet on the UK regulations governing contact lens sale and supply.
The latest guidance, sent out to all BCLA members, reminds practitioners to check whether lenses they are responsible for supplying must be sold under supervision or general direction, and to understand the differences between each supply route.
The move follows changes to the guidance provided by the optical professional bodies on such issues as 'supervision' and 'general direction' of contact lens sales, plano (zero-powered) lenses, supplying children under 16, and lens substitution.
BCLA president Nick Atkins said: 'The BCLA was among the first to issue advice to its members when the regulations were first introduced in June 2005 and this new factsheet will help members ensure they comply with the latest guidance.'
