At first sight this frame looks little different to many other rimless three-piece frames on the market, but a closer look reveals no screw or plug. Indeed the titanium frame - 'Bond It' from Belushi Sport, launched this summer - is secured in each lens hole with an adhesive.
All Nikon-approved laboratories are glazing the new design, which has a patent pending, and comes with a host of benefits including no parts to come loose or to lose, adjustable in every direction, and quicker to assemble than other rimless fitting methods.A 'unique bonding fluid', which takes about 10 minutes to set, fills the gap between the metal parts and the high-index or polycarbonate material, which the company said reduced stress across the lenses.
To improve the appearance and to make back-surface lens cleaning easier for the patient, the holes can be drilled blind from the front, so there is no hole at the back.
