Development capital fund management company Bestport Ventures LLP has invested £1m in domiciliary provider Rose Optical Services Group.

The initial commitment of development capital by Bestport is the first step in a plan to build the business into a significant presence in the mobile optical services market. Rose is described as a fast-growing provider of optical services to the elderly immobile in their homes and care homes.

Ole Bettum, managing partner of Besport, said: 'The provision of optical services to the elderly is an interesting niche segment of the healthcare services market. We have been tracking both the sector and Rose for some time and our investment in a well-managed business provides an excellent platform for rapid growth in this area.'

Rose Optical's managing director Jonathan Rose said: 'Our focus on delivering a high-quality service to immobile customers wherever they may be residing is generating strong growth and the backing of Bestport Ventures will assist us in rolling out our service across the country.

'Bestport Ventures along with our incoming chairman Alnur Dhanani, also a Bestport Advisory Board member, have excellent credentials in healthcare services more generally, and as such, will provide invaluable support in taking Rose Optical to the next stage and beyond.'

Rose told Optician that the quality of service and response times would improve greatly with the investment, raising the industry standard to help the company's growth.

Dhanani, who has a healthcare background, is chairman and owner of Carebase, a nursing home group with a total of 16 mainly purpose-built homes in the South East.

Rose added: 'Our mission is to work closely with the expertise Carebase has in the care home environment to develop a service that increases the level of care for patients and their carers.'
