Bi-aspheric brings optical advances

Available from Norville Lens Supplies from January is the SPG 1.74 bi-aspheric resin lens by Seiko.
The lens is heralded as 50 per cent thinner and 40 per cent lighter than CR39, and 10 per cent thinner than 1.74 front-surface-only aspherics, according to Norville. The edge substance is comparable to that of 1.80 glass.
Norville's Paul Walden describes the lens as optically and cosmetically advanced. 'Reducing distortion and increasing optical performance, especially where astigmatism is a feature of the prescription, it is the answer for many patients who are disappointed with the optics of other high-index options.'
The lens comes in ranges to -10D, with cyls to 2 in stock and to -12D surfaced, with cyls to 4.
Patient leaflets will be available for in-practice promotion and for use with reminder letters, along with a sample lens display.
'We are sure the introduction of such a thin lens will also allow patients to use rimless and supra options, which were previously no-go areas in their prescriptions,' added Mr Walden.
In addition, smaller lens eye sizes are now available as an off-the-shelf item, with next-day delivery from Norville Lens Supplies. The 55mm and 60mm CR39 lenses come in plus powers to +8, with cyls to -2 in a choice of uncoated, hard-coated and Clarity multi-coated options.
