The report stated that of the 1,729 new people who came to use NCBI's services, 14 per cent were over 65 and 54 per cent were over 75, bringing the total number of service users to 14,659.

The report stated that patients were likely on average to get their sight checked three years after it had begun to deteriorate, but could wait up to 15 years before seeking help for hearing problems.
