The Body Doctor has partnered with menopause campaigner, GenM, and secured MTick menopause-friendly accreditation for nine of its dry eye products.
In a report by GenM, menopausal women in the UK have described feeling invisible and their specific demands have often been overlooked by retailers and brands.
The Body Doctor’s sales and marketing director, Sam Wymer, noted: ‘There’s a significant lack of awareness that dry eye is one of the 48 symptoms that women can experience during perimenopause and menopause.’
Research by The Body Doctor showed that dry eye affected close to 61% of perimenopausal and menopausal women. During menopause, androgen hormone levels decrease, impacting the meibomian and lacrimal glands. The glands can become inflamed and produce fewer tears of poorer quality. Menopausal women with dry eyes may experience blurred vision, light sensitivity, swollen eyelids and increased tearing.
‘Our goal in partnering with this incredible collective is to make it easier for customers to find the products that provide relief, helping to close that awareness gap and improve their overall wellbeing,’ Wymer added.
The Body Doctor will be raising awareness about menopause and dry eye during Eye Health Awareness Week from September 23 and Menopause Awareness Month in October.
