Boots Opticians has launched a new partnership with the National Literacy Trust to highlight the links between eye health and literacy and campaign for improved policies.
Together they aimed to improving the literacy outcomes of the UK’s most disadvantaged children, a statement said.
It was estimated that around one million children have an undiagnosed vision problem, with research showing that people from areas of deprivation were likely to delay eye test attendance due to concerns about the cost of glasses.
The partnership would act through volunteering in schools, community programmes, fundraising and campaigning for changes in policy.
