Bausch+Lomb recommends a rub and rinse regimen in the directions for use of its multipurpose contact lens solutions and is removing the phrase 'no rub' from its ReNu fresh multipurpose contact lens solution globally.
The company stated that its product labelling transition had been under way since the beginning of 2010, with its Biotrue and ReNu sensitive MPSs already including labelling directions to rub and rinse as part of the care and cleaning regimen. The move follows recent advice from the US on using a rub and rinse step (News 10.09.10).
Mohinder Merchea, B+L's director of medical affairs, North American Vision Care, said: 'By choosing to proactively change our multipurpose labelling to only include a rub regimen for cleaning and disinfecting lenses, we are providing patients with the insights we've gained from the 92 per cent of eye care professionals who instruct their patients to rub their lenses.'
