Brake calls on practitioners

Eye health

Health professionals have been urged by charity Brake to back a campaign for safer roads for walking and cycling in Road Safety Week (November 19-25).

This follows a British Medical Association report that highlighted the need for safer roads to improve public health. The theme of 'slower speeds = happy people' promotes the importance of drivers slowing to 20mph around homes, schools and shops, making it safer for people to walk, cycle and run.

The campaign, now in its 16th year, is supported by headline sponsors Specsavers and the Brain Injury Group.

Brake deputy chief executive Julie Townsend, who appealed to health professionals to add their voice to the campaign, said: 'Health professionals are ideally placed to raise awareness about the difference we can all make to road safety, and why this is so important.'
