Sky and the BBC are in talks with royal officials to broadcast the royal wedding in 3D according to The Sunday Telegraph.

BSkyB told the newspaper: 'We are very keen to explore the possibility of broadcasting the royal wedding in 3D.'

Sky television also released figures detailing the scale of the take-up of 3D television services since it launched its Sky 3D channel in October 2010. The broadcaster reported that 70,000 subscribers have signed up so far with 'thousands more' subscribing to the service each week.

According to Sky this figure represents half of the current number of 3D television owners in the UK.

Content on the channel includes 3D films as well as major sports events, documentaries and opera. The disclosure from the BBC that it was in talks with royal officials over the possibility of a wedding broadcast in 3D indicates that the BBC is likely to start broadcasting terrestrial 3D in spring 2011.
