Call for volunteers as pandemic eases

Vision Care for Homeless People need optical volunteers to recover from closure

Helen Harms has joined Vision Care for Homeless People (VCHP) as volunteer operations manager and called for volunteers to work within the charity’s regional clinics as they re-open post-pandemic.

The forced suspension of VCHP’s eye care clinic during the pandemic has now ended and Harms sought any optical professionals with as little as half a day a month free to spare to volunteer.

‘So many homeless people are unable to access the eye care service they need and we are striving to change that situation for the better,’ she said.

An added bonus for optometrists who volunteer included free CPD, courtesy of Eyecare Education. VCHP has well-equipped clinics in Birmingham, Brighton, Exeter, Gloucester, Leeds, London and Manchester. Those interested should visit www.visioncarecharity.org/volunteers.
