Carnforth optometrist suspended

Carnforth-based optometrist Michael Moon has been suspended from the GOC’s register for six months after a committee found his fitness to practise impaired by reason of misconduct.

A hearing revealed that Moon failed to conduct appropriate eye examinations, amended patient records and behaved inappropriately towards a patient.

Among the proven allegations from May 2019, Moon failed to perform a visual fields test, did not record intraocular pressure measurements, and did not record muscle balance open binocular vision test.

In July 2019, Moon referred to a patient as a ‘lady of leisure’ and made remarks to the same patient about ‘women using headaches as excuses.’
