Bradford University’s professor of vision science took the opportunity of meeting GOS review project manager to press the case for an expanded role for optometrists in the NHS this week.

David Whitaker met Dilip Chauhan on Wednesday (June 21) when the DoH policy adviser travelled to the university to see how optometrists are trained.

Whitaker said: ‘Our aim is to convince the government that an expanded health care role for optometrists is both viable and necessary.

‘The growth in the ageing population and the number of ophthalmologists is putting severe pressure on this service.’
