Private cataract surgery provider Community Health Eye Care (CHEC) was reported in The Sunday Times (April 27) to be under investigation by NHS England after a series of patients developed serious post-operative complications.
A leaked NHS report revealed that seven CHEC patients had suffered permanent sight loss, infections and detached retinas, with the company reportedly failing to provide details to A&E departments to help with the patients’ care.
The investigation follows The Sunday Times’ April 20 article, which exposed concerns about the financial practices, post-surgery care and patient safety across private cataract clinics in the UK, as reported in Optician news (April 25).
