Optometry's involvement in improving choice for cataract patients will be a major part of a conference on referrals.
A spokesman for the event, which is organised by the UK health magazine Health Service Journal, said: 'Patient choice at the point of referral is a linchpin of the modernisation agenda and the biggest shake up of the NHS since its creation. While the political rhetoric has been about patient power and consumerism, for those charged with the implementation of choice there are a whole host of issues to contend with.'
Bob Ricketts, head of NHS capacity, plural and choice, will give a 'Payment by results' presentation and consultant ophthalmologist Andy Cassels-Brown will lead a session on implementing choice in cataract.
'Driving forward patient choice' will take place at 27 Sussex Place, London on March 1.
